Heading 8307

Flexible tubing of base metal, with or without fittings

5 declarable lines

Heading 8307 covers flexible tubing made of base metal, sold with or without end fittings, such as braided hoses, flexible connectors and bendable conduit. The heading splits first by metal: iron or steel in 8307.10, other base metals such as aluminum, brass or copper in 8307.90. Each half then splits by whether fittings are attached, and the iron or steel 'other' line separates jacketed corrugated stainless steel tubing from all other tubing.

Products in this heading

  • Braided stainless steel supply hose for a faucet or toilet, sold with threaded end fittings
  • Flexible brass shower hose with nut connectors
  • Corrugated stainless steel gas connector with fittings
  • Jacketed corrugated stainless steel tubing of the kind described in statistical note 1 to chapter 83
  • Flexible aluminum duct for HVAC or dryer venting, without fittings
  • Bendable steel conduit for machinery wiring, cut to length
  • Bronze or copper flexible hose assembly for a pump

How to choose the right subheading

  • Base metal content: iron or steel goes to 8307.10, any other base metal such as aluminum, brass or copper goes to 8307.90.
  • Whether fittings, couplings, nuts or connectors are attached at the time of import: the 'with fittings' lines apply only when they are.
  • For iron or steel without fittings, check whether the goods are jacketed corrugated stainless steel tubing as described in statistical note 1 to chapter 83.
  • If the item is not flexible, or the tube is plastic or rubber rather than base metal, the heading does not apply.
  • Fittings imported separately, not attached to the tubing, are classified on their own.

Often confused with

  • Flexible plastic or rubber hose, even if reinforced with metal braid

Plastic tubing is classified in chapter 39 by material, not in the base metal chapter.

    Heading 3917
  • Rigid base metal pipe or tube

Heading 8307 requires the tubing to be flexible; rigid welded steel pipe stays in chapter 73.

    Heading 7306
  • Copper tube fittings and couplings sold separately

Separate fittings of copper are classified as fittings, not as flexible tubing.

    Heading 7412
  • Wire rope and stranded steel cable

Stranded cable is a wire product, not a tube, and is classified in the wire strand heading.

    Heading 7312
  • Base metal brackets and mountings used to hang the tubing

Mountings and fittings for structures are covered by heading 8302.
